DESCRIPTION:TechPoint is thrilled to once again bring the Mira Awards to the Indiana tech community at the 23rd annual black-tie gala honoring the best of tech in Indiana\, and presented by Salesforce. \nEvery spring\, the tech community comes together to celebrate the state’s many successes and to find out who will win top honors in more than a dozen different technology award categories. Tech pros\, leaders of industry\, government and academia\, and friends and family all gather for “Tech’s Biggest Night.” \nApplications are reviewed and scored by panels of recognized subject matter experts. Nominees participate in live interviews with judges\, and the winners are revealed at the “Oscars-style” gala on Saturday\, April\, 23\, at the JW Marriott — Indianapolis. \nWe have been virtual for two years and we are excited to bring everyone back in person with an appropriate theme: TOGETHER.

DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, we will explore some of the basic concepts behind creating a good choropleth map: quantitative vs. qualitative\, classing methods\, number of classes\, and how to use color more effectively to depict a better cartographic product.  We will dive into the Census Bureau’s data platform\, data.census.gov\, and learn how to retrieve American Community Survey and/or Decennial Census information\, and then demonstrate how to map it\, utilizing the concepts we have discussed. No previous experience with data.census.gov is necessary to attend this session.
